About Wildlings

Wildlings is unique to the local area of Belper. We have begun our move towards outdoors based early years education and so we now spend three full days per week outdoors in the forest all year round and whatever the weather.

We were formerly known as Ambergate and District Playgroup, but have recently begun the process of changing our name to Wildlings. A name that truly reflects our pedagogical approach and the children we have the pleasure to teach.

We offer a welcoming, friendly and creative environment for your child to learn and thrive.  We have a large open space which gives children access to a range of resources, and we encourage them to choose based on their own interests. We have a beautiful baby area, designed for our smallest children to play safely and happily, while also allowing them time and space to explore and play with the older children; perfect for developing social skills. Here at Wildlings we love messy play and know that children can learn so much from playing with sand, water, paint, playdough and mud.

We have an ‘all weather’ outdoor area so children can freely flow outside with their friends for fresh air and creative play. Our children love our outdoor area, with its mud kitchen, pots and pans, crates and tarpaulins for creating their own dens.

We are very lucky to be based close to Shining Cliff Woods, and we make the most of this. Even on our non forest days we still have regular trips to the woods to explore, build, make mud slides and have adventures. We do this in all weathers – as long as the children have wellies and waterproofs then nothing will stop us!

We work closely with Ambergate Primary School and have regular trips, giving children a chance to share a session with the Reception children, which makes transition to Primary School much smoother.

We are completely child led, so if the children suggest somewhere to go, then we will!

We work within the Early Years Foundation Stage framework and we record our children’s development and achievements using diaries that the children have free access to and ownership of. The diaries are unique to each child and are available at all times for you to look at. They love to show you their entries at the end of the day!
